General Notes: Husband - Lewis A. Krause

He lived on a farm in his early youth in his native land. He received an excellent education, and filled an important public office before his immigration to America. In 1853 he settled on a farm in Jefferson township, Butler County, PA, where he resided until 1861, and then took up his residence at Hannahstown. He engaged in the hotel business, which he continued until 1863, and then retired. In 1859 he organized the Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company, and filled the office of president until his death. He and his wife were members of the Saxonburg Lutheran church. In politics, he was an ardent Democrat, and though an active and influential member of his party, he would never accept public office.
