General Notes: Husband - Daniel Stowe Knox

He was reared in his native town until fifteen years of age, when he moved to what is now Kingsley township, Forest County, Pennsylvania, where he attended school for a year. He then engaged in lumbering, in Clarion and Forest counties, Pennsylvania, until the breaking out of the war of the Rebellion, and in September, 1861, went to the front as captain of Company G, Eighty-third Pennsylvania Volunteers. He served two years, during which time he was in nine battles, viz.: Big Bethel, West Point, Yorktown, Hanover C. H., Gaines' Mills, Malvern Hill, second battle of Bull Run, Antietam and Fredericksburg, and then resigned on account of disability, having been injured at the battle of Bull Run, and received an honorable discharge. He then located in Oil City, Pennsylvania, where he embarked in the oil and lumber businesses, remaining there two and one-half years, when he again located in Kingsley township, Forest County, remaining until 1868. Then removing to Tionesta, he embarked in general merchandise business, at which he continued six years, and after 1874, lumbering was his principal business in Tionesta. He was a member of the G. A. R. and P. O. S. of A. He served as justice of the peace at Tionesta twenty years, and burgess several terms; was appointed postmaster of Tionesta in May, 1889. Politically he was a Republican.
