He served in the Civil War, enrolling as a private in Co. I, 7th Regiment, Ohio Vol. Inf. on April 24, 1861, and was mustered into the United States service for a period of three months on April 30, 1861, at Cleveland, OH. Mustered out June 19, 1861 to enlist in Co. I, 7th Ohio Vol. Inf. for three years. Discharged Sep­tember 14, 1862, on surgeon's certificate of disability. This Company was organized at Youngstown, OH. Clark was 18 years of age at date of enlistment.
