General Notes: Husband - Robert Wilson

He was nine years of age when brought by his parents to the United States, but a man grown and the head of the family when permanent settlement was made in Clarion county, where he cleared the farm previously referred to, built a pole, then a log house, and later a comfortable home and commodious barn. The county was very wild, and when Robert was at work clearing his fields, his wife, if danger was near, took her two babes and stayed near him. The old log house contained three rooms, all heated by one big wood stove, fuel being the one thing plentiful. In addition to his farm, Robert Wilson conducted a blacksmith shop and distillery. He was a busy man, and in later years, when the new house was built and the country more settled, his house was a centre of neighborhood sociability, especially in winter, when several sled loads would assemble nearly every night. He was a well informed intelligent man, and was one of the few who subscribed for and read a newspaper. His son John, a good reader, would read aloud from the paper to five or six neighbors who gathered weekly to hear the news from the outside world.
