General Notes: Husband - Hugh Kilgore

He attended the public schools until he was nineteen years of age and farmed until he was twenty-three years old. He then left for the oil refining region in Venango County, PA, where he was engaged for five years, after which for a like period he was employed in the oil business near Philadelphia. After this experience of a decade he returned to Sugar Grove Township, Mercer County, and engaged in farming, carrying on the same in both Sugar Grove and West Salem. His homestead was known as “Maple Springs,” so called from a pure spring flowing through the beautiful maple grove on the farm. In his political views, he was a Democrat and served as a tax collector beginning in 1902, having also served as constable. His religious faith was that of Presbyterianism.
