General Notes: Husband - J. Walter Ketterer


He was reared in Butler, Pennsylvania, and after being graduated from the high school in 1907, he attended the Rose Polytechnic Institute, later entering the University of Pennsylvania, from which he received his degree of B. S. in Architecture in 1912. After graduating, Mr. Ketterer spent several years in offices of New York and Pittsburgh architects before opening his own office in Butler. Besides an extensive practice in residential work, Mr. Ketterer designed a number of schools and banks in the vicinity of Butler. Among the residences designed by him may be mentioned the homes of Mr. Frank E. Troutman, Mr. George Stewart, Dr. N. S. Garbisch, Mr. L. Spaide, and Mr. Carl Cheeseman. Mr. Ketterer was also associated with Walker and Gillette as architects for the residence and other buildings for the Hon. T. W. Phillips, Jr., in Penn Township. This residence was one of the most successful Georgian houses in the East.
He was one of the original members of the City Planning Commission and the City Zoning Commission. He was chairman of the City Building Code Committee, member of the American Institute of Architects, Kiwanis Club, Board of Commerce, Butler Country Club, Sterling Club. He was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, and in politics was a Republican. [HBC 1927, 978]
