The Kersteter family was among the early settlers of Lyken's Valley, Northum­berland County, Pennsylvania.

A few years after his son, Leonard Kersteter, Jr., moved from Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, to Centre County, he followed his son to central Pennsylvania, but he afterward moved to Stark County, [Ohio?,] where he died.
