General Notes: Husband - Robert Thompson Wallace

His opportunities for obtaining an education were as good and no better than the average farmers' boys of that day. About 1842 his father, with his family, removed to Mahoningtown, in Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, and Robert there gained some actual experience in business life. In 1856 he went to Muscatine, Iowa, where, with the exception of two or three years, he spent the remainder of his days. Like his father, he had a remarkably retentive memory and strong political convictions, which he was never afraid to express. He was wholly destitute of the smooth qualites of the politician, but he was elected Mayor of the city of Muscatine in 1882, re-elected in 1883 and again in 1884. He was a great sufferer from rheumatic troubles.
