He attended the subscription schools of his neighborhood until he was sixteen years of age, when he engaged in farming, giving his time principally to farming and stock-raising.
He was a republican in politics and an elder of the Presbyterian church, at Harrison City.
He was reared and educated in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, owning and cultivating a part of the old Keister homestead after his marriage. He finished clearing that property and placed it in excellent condition for cultivation, also improving it by the erection of new and modern frame buildings. Late in life he bought a portion of the Lauffer estate, and there made his home and died. His widow moved to Jeannette. He was a Republican in political faith, and with his wife belonged to the Presbyterian Church, in the organization of which he was an elder.
