General Notes: Husband - George W. Keefer

---

He was known as "River George" since his cousin, George W. Keefer, born the same week as he was, was known as "Country George". After he was married, his father sold them a portion of his land in the northern part of West Monterey, PA, and they engaged in farming, he also ran the river as a pilot. He also worked in the stone quarry on the Oliver Elder farm for $1.00 per day. After his wife's death, he fixed his mind on the state of Oklahoma, where there was a great oil boom, and where he planned to become wealthy. Accordingly, he went to Shamrock, Oklahoma, where he carried United States Mail, and purchased a great number of shares in the oil companies.
