He was quite young when his parents came to America and was reared to maturity at Carnegie, Pennsylvania, where he attended the common schools of the First Ward. When a young man he learned the barber's trade, afterwards conducting a shop at New Kensington, Pennsylvania, for twelve years. In 1906 he came to Donora and with his father purchased the Hotel Donora, and after 1908, when he purchased his father's interest, he was sole owner of the business.
In fraternal circles he held membership with the B. P. O. E. at Monessen, and the Improved Order of Heptasophs at New Kensington, and he was religiously a member of the Roman Catholic Church. He was politically an adherent of the Republican party.
