General Notes: Husband - William G. Artman

He enlisted August 1, 1862, in Company G, One Hundred and Second Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry, and was first sent to Frankfort, Kentucky, then to Bowling Green, and passed the fall and winter with his company at Gallatin, Tennessee. The following spring his company was assigned to arduous scouting duty in the vicinity of Nashville and soon afterward his regiment was attached to the Twentieth Army Corps under General Sherman and participated in all the campaigns and battles of the southwestern army until they reached Atlanta and the sea. He was honorably discharged at Chicago, Illinois, in June, 1865, and returned to the old homestead in Greene Township, Mercer County, PA, to engage in his old pursuit of farming. In time he became prosperous both as a farmer and raiser of cattle and other live stock.
