The educational advantages of Samuel B. Ar­thurs were such as the common schools of Brook­ville afforded, which he attended until about nine­teen years of age. He began his business career as a farmer, devoting his time and attention to agricultural pursuits for five years, and then em­barked in hotel keeping, operating the “Central House”, one of the leading hotels of Brookville. He was also extensively interested in fast horses, was a competent judge of those noble ani­mals, and owned some of the finest ever brought to Jefferson County.
