He was reared in his native town, and from 1852 to 1871 was in the lumber business at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; then for a time he resided in Randolph, NY, returning to Harmony township, Forest County, in 1876. He was a member of the Universalist Church, and of the I. O. O. F. Politically he was a Republican, and was one of the auditors of Forest County.
