He enlisted in Co. H, 78th Regiment P. V., Sept 17, 1861, and was mustered out Nov. 12, 1864, his regiment being a part of Negley's Brigade and the 14th Army Corps under Gen. Thomas. He was engaged in the battles of Murfreesboro or Stone River, Lookout Mount­ain, Chickamauga, Mission Ridge, and numerous other engagements.
