General Notes: Husband - Maj. John Johnston


He rendered distinguished service in the war of the revolution, in the Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, militia. He was major of the Eighth Battalion, July 31, 1777; major of same, May 14, 1778; captain, troop of light horse, May 10, 1780; captain, John Johnston's light dragoons, in service from September 29, 1781, to September 22, 1782.

He inherited a part of the old Johnston plantation, near Greencastle, Pennsylvania, under his father's will.
He was major of Colonel Abraham Smith's battalion, Cumberland County Associators, 1777-80, and was commissioned major of the first battalion, May 10, 1780. He was chosen coroner of Franklin County, in 1785, and was sheriff, 1787-90. He afterwards removed to a part of Westmoreland County that later became Indiana County.
