General Notes: Husband - Gilbert Johnston, Esq.

He received his education at the common schools until nine years of age, when the death of his father occurred, compelling him to remain at home and help to support the other members of the family. In 1869 he purchased his own farm, and in 1879 he established a general store on a part of his farm, and conducted that in connection with farming. He was elected to various township offices, and served as a justice of the peace. He was one of the trustees of the Springfield United Presbyterian Church, of which he and family were members. He was a supporter of the Republican party.
