General Notes: Husband - Charles C. Johnston


Civil War: He was Corporal of Co. E, 188th Infantry, which was mustered in Jan. 29, 1864. His regiment was engaged at Bermuda Hundreds, Drury's Bluff, and was for two weeks under fire at Proctor's Creek. After its transfer to the Army of the Potomac he saw severe ser-vice on the James River and in front of Petersburg. It was here, in the capacity of a sharpshooter, he contracted disease from which he died.
