General Notes: Husband - William Carson Peoples

He passed the years of his childhood in his native place. He attended the local public schools for his education until he had reached the age of fourteen years, when he was sent by his parents to Tuscarora Academy, Juniata County, Pennsylvania, where he remained for some time, and then went to Wooster, Ohio, where, later, he entered the University of Wooster, from which he was graduated with the class of 1880. Following his graduation he taught school for a short time, and afterwards came to Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and began the study of the law. He was admitted to the bar of Westmoreland County in the month of August, 1885, and at once began practice at Greensburg.
Mr. Peoples identified himself with the affairs, business and political, of the community. In 1894 he was elected district attorney, and after serving for a three-year term was reelected for another term of three years. He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1912, in Chicago, and was one of those who vainly supported the nomination of Theodore Roosevelt on that occasion. One month later he was a delegate to the Progressive National Convention, held in the same city, and there took part in the enthusiastic nomination of their brilliant leader.
He was also well known in fraternal and social circles, and was a member of a number of important organizations of this character, among which could be mentioned Lodge No. 518, Free and Accepted Masons; Chapter No. 194, Royal Arch Masons; Olivet Council, No. 13, Royal and Select Masters; and Commandery No. 32, Knights Templar; and Syria Temple, Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. Besides these Masonic bodies, Mr. Peoples was a member of Lodge No. 511, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, of Greensburg. He was a Presbyterian in his religious belief and attended the First Church of that denomination at Greensburg.
