General Notes: Husband - Lucius J. Lilly


He received his early education in the public schools, then worked on his father's farm until 1864, when he enlisted, March 29, in Battery L, of the Second Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, being transferred to Company A, Second Provisional Heavy Artillery, and served in the civil war for one year and eleven months; taking part in the battles in the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, North Ann River, Bethesda Church, Cold Harbor, and before Petersburg, June 17-18, 1864, and also the battle at Chapin's Farm, September 29-30, 1864. After the close of the war he learned the trade of a shoemaker in Union City, Pennsylvania, and in 1865 opened a shoe store in Riceville, Pennsylvania, which he conducted until 1872, when he removed to Antwerp, Pennsylvania, and engaged in the shoe business until 1874, when he was burned out. He then followed his trade in Turkey City, Pennsylvania, until 1878, in which year he settled in Duke Center, Pennsylvania, where he conducted a shoe store until 1895, when he disposed of his business and became interested in the oil fields, coming to be the owner of fifty-two oil wells. He was also a stockholder in the Commercial Bank of Bradford, Pennsylvania.
He was a Republican in politics, and was for one term a member of the borough council in Duke Center, and for some years was supervisor of the town.
He was a member of the Coudersport Consistory, a thirty-second degree Mason, and was a member of North Star Lodge, No. 555, Free and Accepted Masons, of which he was past master by service. He was a member of Bradford Chapter, No. 260, Royal Arch Masons, and was also a member of Mullin Post, No. 336, Grand Army of the Republic, in Duke Center.
