He owned the old Bishop Roberts farm of 400 acres, which had been purchased from Bishop Roberts by Lewis Lindsey.

He followed the carriage business at Atlantic, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, until 1894, and subsequently at Greenville, Mercer County, until 1904, when he moved to Meadville.
