General Notes: Husband - Ephraim Pentland Stewart

His parents died while he was young and with his brother he was placed in the care of his granduncle, Abner P. Lacock, an old and prominent citizen of Beaver County, Pennsylvania. He received a common-school education, and commenced business life at the age of eighteen years. In 1861 he enlisted in Company F, 10th Pennsylvania Regiment, and served until 1862. He returned to Beaver County, and remained there until 1868, when he located in Ohio and engaged in the railroad business. In 1881 he moved from Sewickley to New Brighton, where he remained until February 22, 1888, when he removed to Rochester. He was a member of the Knights of Honor of Sewickley, and Post No. 208, G. A. R., of New Brighton; politically he was a Republican. [HBC 1888, 815]

He was a member of one of the pioneer families of Beaver County, Pennsylvania. At an early age his father died and he was raised and educated by his mother's uncle, Abner P. Lacock. In 1861 in Rochester, Pennsylvania, he became a member of Company F (Curtin Rifles), Tenth Regiment, Pennsylvania Reserves, and served with distinction during the greater part of the War of the Rebellion, being promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant. For twenty-three years Mr. Stewart was chief clerk to the auditor of the disbursement office of the Pennsylvania Company at Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
