General Notes: Husband - Thomas George Troutman

He was born August 17. [NQ, 206]

He attend-ed the public schools and worked on the farm at the mouth of Troutman's Run, Clarion County, Pennsylvania, until he was eighteen years of age. Then in summertime he was a raftman, carrying lumber down the rivers as far as Cincinnati and Louisville, while in winter he taught the district school. He con-tinued this for about twenty-five years then with the discovery of oil followed the different fields, contracting for the erection of derricks and tanks. He had worked with his father a good deal in earlier life and also built many dwellings, barns, etc. He continued contract-ing of this general character until 1896, when he bought a farm of fifty acres in Perry town-ship and resided on five acres of this in the village of Perryville, where he lived a re-tired life. His entire life was spent as described, excepting the years 1868 to 1872, when with a colony of twelve families, containing seventy-two persons, he moved to Tennessee, where he farmed for four years, then returned to his old home.
