General Notes: Husband - Benjamin Carrel Wharton

He attended the common schools of his native county until he arrived at his twenty-first year. He continued with his father, sharing the labors and profits of the home farm, until 1883. From then until 1885, he was in mercantile business, in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. He then bought a farm, which he cultivated for four years, and then rented it. In 1889, Mr. Wharton removed to Mount Union, where, after selling his farm in 1893, he built a commodious residence, and engaged in business. He filled various township offices. In 1880, in Mifflin County, he was elected school director, served for three years, and then was re-elected; he also filled the offices of the election board a number of times. Mr. Wharton adhered to the Republican party. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, and was a ruling elder for some years.
