General Notes: Husband - Matthew Van Lear


He was a merchant in early life but spent his later years on a plantation "Mount Tammany," near Williamsport, Maryland, comprising a tract of twelve hundred acres. This estate was not divided until 1862. He erected the well-known Van Lear mansion on the road between Hagerstown and Williamsport.
