General Notes: Husband - John Scull

---

He journeyed through the wilder­ness from Reading, Pennsylvania, to Pittsburgh, in 1786, in company with Joseph Hall, and on July 29 of that year they established the Pittsburg Gazette, the first news­paper published west of the Allegheny mountains. It was firm in the support of the Washington administration. He was also the first postmaster of the city of Pittsburgh, and president of one of the first banks established in that city.
