General Notes: Husband - John F. Irwin

He received his education in the public schools of his native place and in the Monongahela Academy, graduating in the class of 1898. His boyhood was spent on the home farm. He took a course in civil engineering in the Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio, graduating in 1900, and each year during his vacation he worked in Monessen. After his graduation he accepted a position with the East Side Land Company of Monessen as engineer and sales agent, retaining this position for one year. In March, 1894, he was elected borough engineer of Monessen. He gave his attention largely to borough affairs, but also took contracts for outside work, to which his corps of engineers attended, under the supervision of his brother, Harry F. Irwin.
He was a Republican in politics, and was actively interested in local affairs. In church relations Mr. Irwin was in accord with the doctrines of the Presbyterian faith.
