General Notes: Husband - John Irwin


He was educated at Duff's Commercial College, Pittsburgh, and at Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, Pennsylvania. In 1868 he located at Monroe, Iowa, and with his brother James traded until the autumn of 1877, under the firm name of Irwin Bros., formerly McGown & Irwin. The following ten years he was bookkeeper and salesman in large stores in Grinnell, Iowa, and Fort Buford, North Dakota. He enlisted July 19, 1864, in Company K, One Hundred and Ninety-third regiment, Penn­sylvania Volunteers, of which he was color corporal; he was mustered out November 12, 1864. In 1889 he made a trip around the world, going by way of Ireland, through Dungannon, County Tyrone. Again, in 1896, he spent several months in Egypt, Palestine, Turkey and Greece. Later in life he resided at Stewartsville, Pennsylvania.
