General Notes: Husband - Frank W. Irwin

He received his early education in the public schools and later attended Monongahela Academy. When he was fifteen years of age he commenced a course of study with the International Correspondence Schools of Scranton, and was graduated in 1899 in mechanical and electrical engineering. He also took a course in the American School of Correspondence, American Institute of Technology at Chicago. He entered into his first regular employment as engineer for the O'Neal Mining Company of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, remaining for three years. The succeeding seven months he was employed by the Irwin Basin Gas Coal Company. In the winter of 1897 he removed to Monessen for the purpose of placing machinery for the National Tin Plate Works. He retained his connection with this firm until the early part of 1905, with the exception of twelve or fourteen months when he was associated in the capacity of mechanical engineer with the Steel Mill at Monessen, during the erection of their plant. In the early part of 1905 he accepted a position of electrical engineer of the Pittsburg Steel plant. He also assisted in the placing of machinery for the water works.
Mr. Irwin was a stanch Republican in politics, and an active and earnest party worker. He served several years as a member of the borough council from the First ward. Fraternally he was a member of the Knights of Pythias, and Lodge No. 773, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and in church relations affiliated with the Presbyterian faith.
