General Notes: Husband - William Lindsey Newcomer

He grew to manhood at the German township farm, and obtained his education in the public schools. He remained at home, his father's assistant, until the death of the latter, then from 1866 to 1886 operated the homestead for his mother. For the next four years he superintended a farm for his brother David until that farm was sold in 1900. He then rented a small adjoining tract of twenty-three acres, which he later purchased and owned, together with one hundred and thirty acres of the farm owned by his father, known as the "Sowers tract." In 1906 he moved to Uniontown, taking a position as clerk with the mercantile house of D. K. Moser. His arrangements were such that in the seasons when his farm needed extra attention he could leave the store, returning after harvest. He was a Democrat in politics and for ten years served as an election officer. He was a director of the Colonial Coal and Coke Company of West Virginia from the time of its organization. He was a member of Masontown Grange, No. 413, Patrons of Husbandry, and when the interest of the members of that grange declined, joined with others and formed a new grange in German township, called German Grange, No. 785. He was master of the latter for thirteen years and during that time attended twelve conventions of the state grange as a delegate. He was an attendant of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
