General Notes: Husband - John Irvin

He was a Chester County, Pennsylvania, Friend, came to the Bald Eagle Valley in 1801, and settled on the place known as the Loughry farm, containing 400 acres of land, where he later died.

He came from Ireland in 1774, accompanying his widowed mother and two brothers, all three of whom located in Washington County, Pennsylvania, after a short residence in Pittsburgh. John Irwin, Sr., settled in Centre County, and although he was by trade a shoemaker, he followed agriculture until his death. [CBRCP-CCJC, 416]

He was a native of Ireland who crossed the ocean in 1774, his mother and two brothers, Matthew and Nathaniel, coming later, the father having died in Ireland some years before. The other three members of the little band went to Pittsburgh and later to Washington County, Pennsylvania, but John Irwin settled in Centre County. He was a shoemaker by trade, but quickly took advantage of the opportunity to secure a farm, which the sparsely inhabited forests of Centre County then afforded, and his remaining years were spent in agriculture.
