General Notes: Husband - Capt. John H. Armstrong


When a youth, he learned the carpenter's trade in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, which he then followed as a contractor and builder. He served four years in the Civil War, in the 100th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry ("Round Heads.") He subsequently located in New Wilmington, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. Upon the death of his father-in-law, Samuel Phillips, he took charge of the farm, where he remained for some four years. In politics, Mr. Armstrong was a republican. He and his wife were connected with the New Castle Second Presbyterian Church.
