General Notes: Husband - James Gibson Humes

He acquired a fair education in the common schools and in 1850 went to Ohio where he worked a few years and then returned to his father's farm, where he stayed until his marriage in 1865. He thereafter devoted his attention to the pursuits of agriculture. Formerly Mr. Humes was a republican but later was a prohibitionist, and served a number of years as school director; he never, however, aspired to any political office. He was an active and consistent member of the Presbyterian church beginning about 1845, and on the 11th of April, 1869, became an elder in the church.
