General Notes: Husband - Christian Houtz

He located in what is now Monroe township, Snyder County, Pennsylvania, at an early day, removing from Lebanon County. He was a man of no little means, and in Monroe township purchased a large tract of land, comprising what became some of the finest farms of the county. He also owned considerable timber land on the present site of Shamokin, which became very valuable for its anthracite coal deposits. About 1828 he removed to Washington township, Snyder County, where he later died. He belonged to the Reformed Church, and was one of its liberal supporters.

He was a farmer and large owner of real estate, including mineral lands, then valued only for iron ore, later very valuable, being in the anthracite coal fields of Pennsylvania.
