He received his education at the schools of Findley Township, Mercer County, PA, and in 1863 enlisted in Company H, Second Battalion, and served seven months. He was mostly engaged in farming, and in 1874 moved onto a farm in Wolf Creek Township. He voted the Democratic ticket, held the office of assessor of the town­ship, and he and family were members of the Springfield United Presbyterian Church. [HMC 1888, 1023]
