General Notes: Husband - Augustus Drum Welty


He was reared at Greens­burg, Westmoreland County, PA, where he was educated in the public schools. His first regular employment was clerking in the post-office, after which he was engaged in various kinds of business until 1875, when he entered the service of the P. R. R. company as assistant ticket agent at Greens­burg, in which capacity he served until 1879, when he was appointed agent, holding the latter position until January, 1885, when he was ap­pointed deputy register and recorder and served as such until April 1, 1890, when he was com­missioned postmaster of Greensburg. He was a republican, took an active part in political affairs, was a member of the Home Circle, a prom­inent beneficial order, and was also a member of the Presbyterian church at Greensburg.
