General Notes: Husband - Joseph Hough

Bainbridge, Lancaster Co, PA

He was a descendant of Richard Hough, of Mackelsfield, Chester, England, who arrived in the province of Pennsylvania August, 1683, and settled in Lower Makefield, Bucks County. He married Mary Ann, daughter of John Clows, the same year. He represented Bucks County in the General Assembly, and was drowned in 1705 on his way down the Delaware river to take his seat in Philadelphia. When William Penn heard of it he wrote to James Logan "I lament the loss of Honest Richard Hough, such men must needs be wanted." The family is of Roman-French descent and of great antiquity.
