He and his wife were natives of Connecticut and New York states, and of English and French descent respectively. They married in Washington County, New York, and moved to Pennsylvania in 1821, settling in Crawford County.
They lived in Crawford County, from 1821 to 1845, when they came to Washington Township, Erie County, settling on a farm later owned by his son.
