General Notes: Husband - John Hopwood

He was a friend of General Washington, who in recognition of his services made him an aide and gave him the important duty of selecting the winter quarters for the French Army after the surrender of Cornwallis. At the close of the war he left Virginia and went westward into the wilderness, settling in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, in 1784.
