He attended the public schools of his native town and the business college at Meadville, Pennsylvania. Afterward he was a student in the Metropolitan College of Music of New York City and at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. Beginning in 1890 he was been a teacher of music with studio at Franklin, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the faculty of the Pennsylvania College of Music at Meadville and of the Franklin Conservatory.
