General Notes: Husband - Asa Brownfield Hoge


He was reared in his native county and received his education in the old Greene Academy at Carmichaels, Pennsylvania. He remained with his parents until eighteen years of age, when he went to Baltimore, Maryland, and was for two years employed as a clerk in a store. He then went to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and was salesman in a large jobbing house for a period of twelve years. In 1876 he went to Philadelphia and accepted a position as traveling salesman, visiting the larger towns and cities throughout Pennsylvania and Virginia.
