He was born in Hazen, Germany, and came to America in 1844, settling in Katrusville, Maryland, where he bought a small farm, and engaged in agricultural pursuits for some eight years. He then came to New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, and worked in the gas-house; and later in 1859 he bought the Col. O'Brien farm, where he lived and labored until he passed away.
