General Notes: Husband - David K. Hissem

He left the common schools at the age of sixteen years and learned the blacksmith trade with his father. On March 4, 1875, he went to Grapeville, Westmoreland County, where he worked some time as a journeyman and then returned home where he worked until September 16, 1876, when he purchased a farm near Beaver Run school house in what became the famous Grapeville Gas Belt. After buying and removing to this farm, which contained all modern improvements, Mr. Hissem steadily worked at his trade in which he did a large and paying business. He was a member of Good Intent Grange, No. 862, P. of H., in which he held the important office of Lecturer and later the Worthy Master.
