He was born in Somerset township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and received his education in the common schools. He assisted his father some time after attaining his majority; always followed farming, and was very successful. He gave special attention to sheep raising, and had some very fine breeds on his farm, which consisted of eighty-seven acres.
He occupies the farm together with his sisters Julia A. and Sarah, who always lived at home.
