He and his wife immigrated to America in 1837, and settled near Chambersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, where they remained three years; then they removed to Adams County, to the farm on which their son later resided. The father also purchased a saw and grist-mill, which was re-built by his son in 1885.
