General Notes: Wife - Eva D. Heydrick

The Franklin cemetery was laid out about one mile from Franklin, on the Dempseytown Road, in 1871. It contained about twenty acres, and was taken from the farm of Robert McCalmont. The first person buried in the cemetery was Eva D., daughter of C. and H. J. Heydrick. The following lines were penned by Judge Irwin, grandfather of Eva:

'Tis sad to think that one so young
And lovely, should be found
To be the first to lie alone
In our new burying ground.

But death still "loves a shining' mark,"
As he has always done,
And Eva's bright and joyous face
No more, we'll look upon.

No more we'll hear those busy feet,
That prattling tongue no more.
Those active limbs are stiff and cold
And all her sports are o'er.

Oh, how that dear one longed to see
Her coming natal day,
That she might celebrate her birth,
Before she passed away.

But He, who "doeth all things well,"
It seems, hath deemed it best
To take the little sufferer home
To her eternal rest.
