General Notes: Husband - Levi Anthony

At an early day his father removed from Rhode Island to Philadelphia, later located in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, subsequently lived in Indiana County, and thence came to Jefferson County, where he was numbered among the prominent and enterprising citizens.

He had two sons and three sons-in-law who were Union soldiers in the Civil war, and one son lost his life in the battle of the Wilderness.

For a time after his marriage he continued to reside at the old homestead, which he had helped to clear, but in 1840 he sold out his interests and removed to Henderson township, Jefferson County, where he purchased eight hundred acres of timber land four miles east of the present village of Big Run. There he built a log house and barn, and otherwise improved the place for a permanent home. For many years the clearing of the forest occupied the greater part of his time, and during this time he made and rafted square timber to Pittsburgh and other western points. [CBRCP-CCJC, 1234]

After his marriage he remained in the old Anthony homestead near Shelocta, Pennsylvania, until 1838, when he sold out to his older brother, William. He then came to Gaskill (later Henderson) township, Jefferson County, and purchased one thousand acres of land from the Holland Land Company, to which he moved his family in the spring of 1839, remaining there until the time of his death. In 1839 we find that was among those who organized the First Presbyterian Church in that section of the country at Luthersburg, and he remained a member of this church until his death.
