General Notes: Husband - Ivan Hernley

He was born at Lititz, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and received his education in the public schools of that section. He learned the printing trade and gained a thorough newspaper experience on several of the largest newspapers of the country, including "The Pittsburgh Press" and "The Cleveland Press." In 1923 he bought out the interests of J. R. Cramer, in "The Observer," in Scottdale, a weekly newspaper, and continued its publication, changing the name to "The News-Observer." Under Mr. Hernley's management, the publication more than doubled its circulation, which came to number about 2,300. "The News-Observer" is an eight-page, eight-column weekly, which, through its up-to-date treatment of local news, made a unique place for itself in the community. He was also a partner in the Hernley Transfer Company. Mr. Hernley was a loyal member of the Promotion Club, of Scottdale, and of the United Brethren Church. Politically he was a Republican.
