The Hermans were among the first settlers near New Kingston, coming in 1771, and the representatives of the family celebrated their centennial in 1871, children of the sixth generation being present on that occasion. The original farm was owned then by Wolford Herman, and the land had been in possession of the name since the first purchase by the great-grandfather.
