After the death of her husband, she removed with her daughter to Argonia, Sumner County, Kansas, where she was a milliner and dressmaker for sixteen years. In 1890 she came to Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Rutherford, for the rest of her life.

She was born and educated as a Friend; later she united with the Presbyterian church.
